Medical Welfare Education Section

กOutline
This department trains students to become psychiatric social workers or medical social workers. Students acquire basic knowledge and training within two or three years of entering their colleges to become skilled professionals in this field. Our goal is "education to make self-reliant professionals", placing an emphasis on "intellectual self-reliance". In other words, our major goal is to train professionals who are able to make decisions by themselves and take appropriate actions where necessary.

กSpecial Education Activities
œLT2 Education
In order to develop into self-reliant adults who are able to make decisions by themselves, students are educated in the following steps: making a field trip (LOOK), learning from experience (TRY), attending lectures (LISTEN), writing a graduation thesis (THINK).
œOn-the-Job Training System in Facilities
We provide a step-by-step training system for our students after they have experienced short-period practical training in the first and second year. Students in the third year practice in facilities for mentally handicapped people trying to return to society and also in hospitals many students are employed by the facilities where they have practiced.

œTraining Abroad
Students in the psychology department make a study tour in the United States, the leading country in the field of psychology, to meet and observe workers counselors on the job and also to meet users of welfare facilities. For their careers in Japan, they can make good use of the valuable experience they have gained in America.

œSpecial Lecture on Service Dogs
A special lecture on service dogs was given by the staff of Japan Assistant Dog Center to prospective students at our colleges. They were greatly impressed by the lecture. This lecture was broadcast on TV.

Technology in Psychology DepartmentF
To become a psychiatric social worker or a counselor in a mental department of a general hospital, a mental hospital or a rehabilitation facility for the mentally handicapped, students aim to get a counselor's license authorized by JESC or a license to edit information magazines in this field. After obtaining these licenses, they can be certified as mental health welfare workers.

This department trains medical social workers and psychiatric social workers who have knowledge and skills in welfare as well as counseling ability. Students are provided with practical training in hospitals and welfare facilities.

This course trains students to become medical social workers and assistant counselors who help patients solve their financial, mental and social problems, including social rehabilitation. The course trains psychiatric social workers who give advice and help to mentally handicapped people so that they can receive good treatment without difficulty.

This department trains students to become workers who give mental care to those people with mental problems or handicaps. Students acquire knowledge of medical care, welfare and psychology as well as counseling skills with the aim of passing the national examination for mental health welfare workers.

Health Care Welfare and Psychology DepartmentF
With psychology as the basis of the department, students learn about mental health, medical care and welfare to become mental health welfare workers or mental health counselors. Studies focus on the particular mental problems in each field.

Medical Welfare Department*F
This department trains students to be professionals who are able to act as a "go-between" for the medical and welfare fields. Students acquire medical knowledge about psychiatry and also special knowledge and skills in the social welfare field to become social workers who can assist patients in making a return to their normal lives.
Mental Health Welfare Department:F
This department trains health coordinators who give elderly or handicapped people nursing and advice about their health, or help them find a purpose in life. There are three courses in which students learn knowledge and skills in medical technology and welfare: the "Rehabilitation Course", the าHealth and Nursing Courseำ and the "Health and Beauty Course".
Mental Health Welfare DepartmentF
T he department produces mental health welfare professionals who support social rehabilitation by providing consultation, advice, instruction, and training necessary for adaptation to everyday life so that persons with psychological disorders can become socially independent. Students learn about interview techniques, group handling techniques, and community and family relationships. They aim to obtain the national qualification as mental health welfare professionals through this 1-year program.

Students learn a wide range of management abilities such as hospital and welfare facility management and practice, and human resource management. The department produces professionals who can provide full organizational support at on-site facilities.
